1.
2026 Freedom Day is celebrated under the theme : Freedom and the Rule of Law: 30 years of Democratic citizenship.
3.
This theme is emphasizing the journey of democracy, accountability and the Rule of Law.
4.
Honourable Speaker, the Constitution as a foundation of Social Justice obliges us to restore what was lost or taken, Mayibuye!
5.
There can be no doubt that over the past 30 years , we have worked together to restore the dignity of millions of South Africans.
6.
More than 10 million of our learners have access to school nutrition programme.
2
7.
Approximately 30 million indigents , unemployed and vulnerable South Africans are receiving old age, disability and Child Support Grants and other forms of social assistance.
8.
More than 80% of South African population now have access to clean water and sanitation.
9.
More than 2 million of poor Households across the country receive free basic services.
10.
Thousands of students from low income households study for free in institutions of Higher Learning across the country.
11.
Hon speakers, even doubting Thomases amongst us, will find it hard to deny the overwhelming evidence that the ANC led government has spearheaded major socio - economic changes in the last 32 years of our Freedom and Democracy.
12.
Honourable Speaker, despite all the many challenges we still face to completely dismantle the colonial structural economy, exploitation and racial oppression dating back to more than 300 years.
13.
We have set our country on major path of social and economic transformation.
14.
We also admit that despite section 25 of the South African Constitution, Land Restitution remains one of the unfinished business of the democratic dispensation.
15.
It is the very Constitution the Supreme law of the country upon which state machinery derives its authority to lead social and economic transformation.
3
16.
Despite the progress registered, the majority of the South Africans are still excluded and marginalized from the ownership, management and control of the economy.
17.
It is precisely for those developmental reasons that, on the occasion of the 2026 Provincial Freedom Day celebration, our Premier, Hon Mandla Ndlovu re- affirmed the commitment of the province to massive infrastructure investment to stimulate inclusive economic growth
Creation of more jobs
Increasing access to healthcare and educational facilities
Sustainable provision of basic services
18.
Freedom must defend material improvements of all our people.
19.
Hon Speaker, on the occasion of the NCOP debate, I argued that Freedom celebration to us is also about :
Continental solidarity
Taking a stand against human genocide in Palastine and in many parts of the world.
20.
I am an African! Africa is my beginning, and Africa shall be my ending !
Siyathokoza!
