MEC congratulates Ntando on winning SA Sport Award

MBOMBELA –Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Lindiwe Ntshalintshali has congratulated Ntando Mahlangu on winning the Sportsman of the Year with Disability at the 2019 SA Sport Awards. The 2019 SA Sport Awards were held in Durban on November 10.
“I want to congratulate the youngster on putting Mpumalanga on the sporting map. The whole province is happy and excited with you,” commented MEC Ntshalintshali.
The 17-year-old double amputee shot into prominence when he won a silver medal in the T42 event at the 2016 Paralymoics in Rio de Janeiro. He lost to Richard Whitehead but managed to revenge for the defeat two years later in London at a Diamond League event.
Concludes the MEC, “I am hopeful the award will motivate Ntando as he prepares for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Above that, the award must serve as a motivating factor to the people of the province to after their dreams in the world of sport.”
Prior to taking up running, Mahlangu had been confined to a wheelchair for the most part of his childhood until he got running blades and he hasn’t looked back ever since.
