MEC Shongwe hails TS Galaxy - the history makers!
Mpumalanga is still in a state of euphoria following TS Galaxy’s historic win over Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup Final.
Galaxy created football history by becoming the first side outside of the elite league to win the cup and what made the victory more special was that they beat the most decorated club in the history of the competition. The win brought cheers to football lovers in Mpumalanga and earned the side a spot in CAF competition next season. “The brilliant performance of the players, technical staff, administrators and supporters, who all contributed immensely in the team’s success deserve recognition,” says Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Thandi Shongwe.
MEC Shongwe, who was in attendance at Moses Mabhida Stadium when the Mpumalanga-based side beat Chiefs, praised the boys for their success. “On behalf of the Mpumalanga Provincial Government and sport-loving people, I want to thank the team for giving the province a reason to celebrate and give us a natural high. We are delighted to be home of the 2019 Nedbank Cup winners,” says MEC Shongwe.
She adds, “Galaxy’s success will be celebrated for a long time and ranks as the highest and proudest sporting achievement in the province. What the club achieved was a triumph for Mpumalanga and its people, especially for the hundreds of supporters who packed the stadium. It was their relentless support, which propelled the boys to achieve unrivalled success and become pathfinders for the current generation of footballers. We trust that the success of Galaxy will inspire other sides in the province to dream big and achieve the impossible.”
