MBOMBELA –Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation presents Rajastani Folk Dance Group on Saturday, 17 March 2018 at Mbombela Civic Centre, starting at 18:00.
The group is in the country to perform at the Kalahari Desert Festival and they will use the performance in Mbombela as a dress rehearsal for that festival, which takes place on March 21 to 24. The group will wow the crowd with the following dance and music forms: ghoomer dance, chari dance, kalbeliya and Kacchi dance, godi dance and Rajasthani songs.
The striking feature of Rajastani's music and dance forms is that there is immense variety. In fact, nothing much has changed since the time of their inception, probably a thousand years back. Songs of ancient poets such as Kabir, Malookdas and Meera have become an integral part of the Rajastani folklore. Apart from festivals, the music and dance of Rajasthani is also enjoyed during special occasions such as marriage, and childbirth.
“The people of Mbombela can relish a Rajasthani dance performance and we can say for sure that you won’t stop from shaking your body in the hypnotizing melody and beat, “ says Sibongile Nkosi of the department.

Entrance is free.
