Fashion Designers stand a chance to exhibit their work in Russia

MBOMBELA – Mpumalanga-based fashion designers stand a chance to have their work exhibited at All Russia Decorative Art Museum as part of the South Africa Cultural Seasons in Russia in March. On display will be distinct South African costumes, artifacts and accessories.

“The department has been invited to be part of the South Africa Cultural Seasons in Russia from 6 to 16 March and we saw it fit that we use the opportunity to expose some of our fashion designers to new markets,” says Culture, Sport and Recreation spokesperson, Sibongile Nkosi. The South Africa Cultural Seasons in Russia is aimed at translating cultural heritage and culture into tangible economic gains. It also showcases and promotes South African cultural-tourism industry. The exhibitions are divided into two:  (1) traditional/contemporary garments and (2) most beautiful objects in South Africa.

“We are looking for traditional costumes and accessories of various South African cultures to take to Russia. The exhibition will serve as an expression of inspiration in the form of contemporary traditional fashion designs accessories,” says Nkosi, adding that the two exhibitions will be used to connect to the Moscow Mercedes Benz Fashion Week a week later in Russia.

Nkosi continues, “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our young and upcoming designers to get exposure and have their work exhibited in one of the world’s powerhouses. With the 2017 FIFA World Cup being hosted in Russia, the exhibition offers limitless possibilities.”
