MPUMALANGA IS READY TO HOST THE 2026 NPSSCE GAMES

05  October   2026

Mpumalanga will add another feather to its cap as a host of major sporting events when Mbombela welcomes the annual National Public Servants Sports and Cultural Events (NPSSCE) from 16 to 17 October. Established in 1996, the NPSSCE promotes wellness among public servants across all spheres of government. The games feature a range of sporting and recreational activities, including football, netball, volleyball, aerobics (marathon), snooker and indigenous games.

More than 3000 public servants are expected to descend on the province’s capital for the two-day event. The Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation has been entrusted with the responsibility of delivering the tournament on behalf of the Mpumalanga Provincial Government. The games will be held at various venues across Mbombela, including Mbombela Stadium, Halls Sports Field, Valencia Sports Field, Lowveld High School and Mbombela Tennis Club.

Day One of the NPSSCE will begin with a fun walk at the Mpumalanga Provincial Government Complex in Riverside, culminating at Mbombela Stadium. The opening ceremony will then take place at the stadium at 09:00, after which the games will commence at the various playing venues. Day Two will be the moving day, with teams competing for top honours.

At the conclusion of the day’s proceedings, the closing ceremony will take place at Mbombela Stadium at 17:00. Over the years, Mpumalanga public servants have performed strongly at the tournament, and this year several officials will have an opportunity to defend their titles on home soil. At the last edition of the NPSSCE, held in Turfloop, Limpopo, Mpumalanga emerged as the defending champions in netball and tennis, in both the men’s and women’s singles categories.

The Department of Education claimed the men’s football Under 40 title.
