GOVERNMENT TO HOST 2026 MPUMALANGA PROVINCIAL WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATION IN BUSHBUCKRIDGE LOCAL MUNICIPALITY

07  August   2026

The Mpumalanga Provincial Government will host the 2026 Provincial Women's Day Celebration at Agincourt Sports Ground, Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, on Sunday, 09 August 2026, marking the 70th anniversary of the historic 1956 Women's March to the Union Buildings in Pretoria, with the keynote address to be delivered by the Premier of Mpumalanga, Mr Mandla Ndlovu.

On 9 August 1956, approximately 20 000 women of all races marched to the Union Buildings to hand over petitions bearing over 100 000 signatures, protesting the pass laws that entrenched racial, social and gender oppression. Seventy years later, the Provincial Women's Day Celebration continues to honour that legacy of courage while spotlighting the tangible contribution of women to the country's development and economic recovery.

The 2026 Women's Day Celebration is held under the theme "Empowered Women Empower Nations," and forms part of a broader Women's Month Programme built around four pillars: build-up activities coordinated by provincial departments, exhibitions showcasing government services and women-owned businesses, short relief and legacy projects, and presentations by Women MECs on support available to women in their respective portfolios. Government services will be available on site.
The Provincial Women's Day Celebration has been arranged as follows:
Date: Sunday, 09 August 2026
Venue: Agincourt Sports Ground, Bushbuckridge Local Municipality
