OFFICIAL OPENING OF NEWTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY

The MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ms Leah Mabuza will officially open and handover the newly built Newtown Public Library on Friday, 14 August 2026.
The handover of the Newtown Public Library forms part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to ensure access to information, and life-long learning opportunities for all citizens, especially the youth. As with other Libraries, this new township feature will serve as a knowledge hub for the community, learners, students and researchers.
This modern library will offer ebooks and is fitted with standard equipment, including computer stations, internet access, study areas, it will also have a children’s reading corner, spaces dedicated to community learning activities and the Mini-Lib (Library for the blind)
The official opening ceremony is scheduled to take place as follows:
