MEC Leah Mabuza shares her condolences to the family of the late Ndodana Ncube
For Immediate Release - 18 May 2026It is with deep sadness and shock that the MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ms Leah Mabuza, has learnt of the passing of Ndodana Ncube, the Zimbabwean boxer who sustained injuries during the international boxing event hosted by Ilanga Boxing Promotion in partnership with the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation on 27 March 2026.
“On behalf of the Departmen and the sport fraternity in Mpumalanga, we are deeply saddened by the passing of Ndodana Ncube. This is a painful loss not only to his family and the people of Zimbabwe, but also to the boxing fraternity as a whole Ndodana displayed remarkable courage and talent when he stepped into the ring that evening. The Department is truly heartbroken that his fight ended in tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. Ndodana displayed immense courage, discipline and passion for the sport, and his contribution to boxing will always be remembered,” said MEC Leah Mabuza.
The MEC further extends appreciation to the medical personnel at Middelburg and Witbank hospitals for the care and support they provided to Ndodana and his family during this difficult period. Appreciation is also extended to all state institutions and stakeholders who assisted throughout the process.
