EXCITING TENNIS TOURNAMENT FINALE ON THE CARDS

For Immediate Release - 7  May  2026

After two weeks of intense tennis action, the inaugural Mbombela Open Global Series will conclude this Sunday, 10 May, with the singles and doubles finals starting at 09:30.

The Mbombela Open Global Series forms part of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour, attracting some of the world’s most talented young players to compete for ranking points in the M15 and W15 events over a two-week period, with a total prize pool of US$60 000 per event. The ITF World Tennis Tour has long served as a breeding ground for elite talent, helping shape the early careers of many of today’s global stars. It is therefore possible that some of the players who competed at Mbombela Tennis Club could one day challenge for top honours at the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open.

Week One of the tournament was won by Dune Vaissaud of France in the women’s singles and Alec Beckley of South Africa in the men’s singles. Romain Faucon of Belgium and Leonardo Vega of the USA claimed the men’s doubles title, while Ann Akasha Ceuca of Germany and Lan Mi of China took top honours in the women’s doubles.

“We’re hoping to finish the tournament on a high with four quality finals on Sunday. I want to extend my gratitude to local tennis fans who have embraced the tournament by supporting the players,” said tournament director Sabelo Mathebula.

The ITF-sanctioned tournament has not only delivered top-class tennis on the courts, but has also provided a boost to the local economy, with players, their families and coaching teams setting up camp in the province’s capital city for the duration of the tournament. The media is invited to attend and cover the finals, arranged as follows:
