NATIONAL WORLD READ ALOUD DAY COMES TO MPUMALANGA

Mpumalanga Provincial Government in partnership with the National Library of South Africa, will host the National World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) on
Wednesday, 4 February
at Matsamo Community Hall, under the theme: Celebrate Learning: What Are You Reading?

The purpose of World Read Aloud Day is to promote a culture of reading by showcasing the value of reading aloud as a key driver of literacy development. The event aims to inspire communities to embrace reading as an everyday practice and to highlight the important role played by families, schools, libraries, and cultural institutions in nurturing lifelong learning.

WRAD activities will extend to selected schools and Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres around Matsamo, which will benefit from a book donation campaign.

Proceedings will be preceded by a South African flag-hoisting ceremony at
Lugebhuta High School at
07:00 on Wednesday, 4 February and a book donation.

Also, a pupil from the school will read the Preamble of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. The department, National Library of South Africa, Book Hive and Dr Gcina Mhlope from Gcinamasiko Arts and Heritage Trust will donate books to five local schools: Matsamo Primary, Schoemansdal Combined, Heyday Preschool, Love and Hope Preschool and Lugebhuta.
