Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation Reassures the Public about Hosting the Metro FM Awards

Mbombela- The Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation would like to categorically refute the malicious rumours being circulated about the Metro FM Awards not being hosted in the province again. The Department, on behalf of the Government of Mpumalanga, signed a three-year contract with the SABC radio station Metro FM to host the prestigious Metro FM Awards in the province. The recent successful awards ceremony, held on 27 April 2024, was the second edition to be hosted under this contract. "We wish to reassure the people of Mpumalanga and all music fans that the Metro FM Awards will continue to be hosted in our province as per the existing agreement," said the Spokesperson for the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ms Sibongile Nkosi. "There are no plans to cancel or relocate the awards, despite the malicious rumours being circulated." The Metro FM Awards have become a highlight on the province's cultural calendar, bringing together the best of South African musical talent and contributing significantly to the local economy through tourism and business opportunities. The Department remains committed to working closely with Metro FM to ensure the continued success of the awards in Mpumalanga. Members of the public are encouraged to disregard any rumours suggesting otherwise and to look forward to the next edition of the Metro FM Awards in the province. “We would also like to warn those who paddle rumours with the intention of harming both the Provincial Government and the Metro FM Awards Brands to refrain from doing so and to avoid possible conflict with the law” concluded Nkosi
