DCSR TO HOST PUBLIC VIEWING AREAS FOR RUGBY WORLD CUP FINALS

October 24 , 2023

The Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation (DCSR), in partnership with local businesses, will host Public Viewing Areas for the 2023 Rugby World Cup Finals.

This is done to support the Springboks as they will be facing New Zealand in the finals of the Rugby World Cup Finals on Saturday, 28 October at the Stade de France in Paris, starting at 21:00.

The Department has identified three sites, one in each district of the Province. These Public Viewing Areas will be located in previously disadvantaged communities which over the years have shown growing interest in the rugby sport. The public viewing areas will open at 19:00.

We have noted the interest and excitement that came with the Springboks qualifying for the World Cup Finals. The Department has identified familiar and safer places where our communities have been converging to watch these matches leading to the semi-finals. The Department aims to support these places with big screens, sound systems and chairs to make the experience more enjoyable. The Department has envisioned a scenario where our communities can access the Public Viewing Sites which are situated within their communities where they can be able to walk to and from these venues without difficulties,” says Ms Sibongile Nkosi, the Spokesperson for the Department.

The Public Viewing Areas have been identified as follows:_ Nkangala District – Siyabuswa Retail Centre, Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality. Gert Sibande District – Loft Launge Cnr Ennis and Oosthuise Str., Ermelo, Msukaligwa Local Municipality. Ehlanzeni District – Praxos Butchery, Schoemansdal, Nkomazi Local Municipality.
