MEC Shongwe to announce winners of Writing Competion

MBOMBELA - Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Thandi Shongwe will announce winners of IsiNdebele and Siswati Short Story Writing Competition on Friday, November 12 at Ndalo Hotel, Emanzana starting at 10:00.
Earlier in the year, the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation ran a Short Story Writing Competition for Mpumalanga-based writers to write stories in IsiNdebele and Siswati. The Short Story Competition was aimed at encouraging and developing writing skills of budding writers as well as keeping IsiNdebele and Siswati languages alive.
“MEC Shongwe will announce the 10 writers who won big in each language. The submissions received tackled everyday issues such as Covid-19, among others. It was encouraging to see our people participating fully in the competition. The competition carries R100k in prize money and the Department, working with Shuter and Shooter, will publish two short story books, one in IsiNdebele and another in Siswati,” said the department’s spokeperson, Sibongile Nkosi.
