Africa Day Celebration 2015

Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Norah Mahlangu-Mabena used Africa Day celebration to deliver a clarion call to all Africans to work together to take the continent forward.
“The historical importance of banding together against common adversaries whether those are economic, social or military threats is that it’s good for the welfare of Africa,” said Mahlangu-Mabena at the Mpumalanga Provincial Africa Day event, which was held at Schoemansdal Community Hall under the theme: We Are Africa - Opening The Doors Of Learning And Culture From Cape to Cairo
Mpumalanga joined the rest of the African continent in commemorating the 52nd anniversary of Africa Day. African nationals from all over the province came together to celebrate the day in song, dance and African cuisine. The celebration started with a march against foreign nationals and thereafter indulgence in African literature took centre stage. Guests were also treated to food tasting of African cuisine from Swaziland, Nigeria, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Ghana.
Africa Day commemorates the formation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on 25 May 1963. The OAU is aimed at promotion of unity and solidarity of African States.
