Department Offcially Hands over Outdoor Gym

As it aims to promote healthy and active life-styles, the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation continues to deliver much needed recreational facilities to the people. The Department, led by MEC Norah Mahlangu-Mabena officially presented the people of Wesselton in Ermelo and surrounding areas with an outdoor gym.

MEC Mahlangu-Mabena called on the people of Msukaligwa Local Municipality to make use of the gym on a regular basis to prevent lifestyle related illnesses such as diabetes and High blood pressure. Mahlangu-Mabena further urged the community to protect its gym from vandalism as its longevity will be achieved through responsible use.

Local resident Ntombi Khumalo praised MEC Mahlangu-Mabena for presenting the community with a gym that can be accessed by everyone as it is nearby and free. Gloria Dube (56) and her team who keep illnesses at bay through early morning runs, could not contain her excitement as the gym meant that they could do various exercises at anytime. Even fitness fanatic, Bongani Mthethwa expressed his gratitude and was at hand to assist the community on how to use the machinery, as he believes that anyone can lead a healthy lifestyle and now that the Department has officially opened the gym, no one has an excuse.

The outdoor gym is an immovable gym built outside in a public area with the all-weather exercise machines moulded on to the ground with concrete material. It is a new way to look at health and fitness. It can include many of the equipment from any indoor gym, but the difference is that, it is specially designed for outdoor use. The gym is suitable for people of all fitness levels, and best of all access is free.
